Ali’s story:
I stumbled upon mountain biking by accident; a move to a home on Vermont’s Kingdom Trails necessitated that I try the sport! This was a time of life when my physical strength felt low, stemming from an earlier cancer diagnosis and several subsequent surgeries. Yet a year after learning to ride, I wrote the following: “Getting on a mountain bike inspired a shift- a letting go of fear and a rediscovery of strength. Six surgeries over five years took my body apart and transformed it into a wonderfully cancer free version, yet left me feeling weaker, and (while always so grateful for life) increasingly frustrated with the limits imposed by each new iteration of "my" body. Today I celebrate life, and the feeling that I’ve finally reclaimed this body as my own!”
Many survivors struggle, during and post-cancer, feeling comfortable with a new and unfamiliar body. Mountain biking changed this for me, and I’m privileged to play a role in enabling this for fellow survivors.
I’d love for you to ride with me! I don’t take compensation or “tips” for the work I do; there is no cost to you. My reward comes from sharing a sport that has changed my life and my cancer trajectory.
